Yes, indeed. The old hymn says it right: “This world is not my home, I’m just a-passing through, my treasures are laid up somewhere beyond the blue…”
As I begin to fume and vent about the careless and disastrous spending foisted upon us right now I find calm and assurance in my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. I remember, once again, that our warfare is not in the flesh but with principalities and powers, defeated already by almighty God.

Maybe we should go back to simply saying “We are followers of the Way”? (Acts 9:2) It might help emphasize the exclusivity of our claims in this relative culture we live in. Thanks for the post, Ken.

Ken – I enjoyed our conversation last night after the “meeting of the Church at Orange Hill”. As Paul explained to the church at Corinth, we are all parts of the Church, the Body of Christ. All the parts must come together in worship and community to complete the work which God has started in us. Watching “church” at home on T.V. or becoming part of a virtual church would leave us with the disadvantage of possibly being only a nose, ear, or foot. That is not what our Lord Jesus intended for His Church, or how he would want us to exist.

Ken – This is an extremely convicting post. It’s taken me a while to respond, but I felt I should. Many of us professing Christians have become very lax (and somewhat comfortable) in a very seductive and enticing secular world. The truth of God’s Word and church doctrine must be taken to task and can’t be compremised. Spencer once spoke about a church marquee he’d seen that said “believe what you believe”

What convicting truth is in that simple statement.

Ken – Good thoughts on important issues. I pray that we would have more unity and healing in the church before we even attempt to engage the world. Only then will our witness be true and only then can we bring glory to God.

Amen, brother! The Chronicles were some of my favorite books as a child. I understood the allegory then, but I will have to confess that I cried like a baby when I saw the movie. God’s grace is truly amazing!

Thanks for commenting. It’s always good to get reminders of how fleeting our earthly lives and how deep the impact of the Fall really are. All creation groans under the consequences of Adam’s sin. Thanks be to God for the second Adam, our Lord Jesus!
